Frogs!

Ever since I found the cutest little toad houses at Menards, I was wondering whether we’d actually have toads or frogs.  We can hear them, but it wasn’t until recently that I actually saw one:  in the evenings when I go around the house to turn off sprinklers and such, I had been seeing a small toad here and here.  And the other night around 10 o’ clock, Fourth of July, when Mark and I went for a walk around the block, down the next street over where houses are being built but are not inhabited yet (= no traffic in the evening and night), we had to dodge toads that were hopping across the street, bigger ones, as big as my palm.

Yesterday evening, as I was turning off sprinklers, I saw a tiny green frog cling to the side of the house, just about two feet off the ground ~  yay for a blue house that shows a green frog :)    Later that night, I saw what I assumed was the same frog cling to the outside of the deck door.  Mark tried to take a picture from inside with his phone but the flash turned the frog into one big white mass – unrecognizable.  This morning, as I was picking up a flowerpot on the deck a tiny frog jumped out and onto the wall.  Looking around I saw another tiny frog, slightly less green – Mrs. Frog?  The two stuck around all day.  Later I found them, again by accident, in the water-filled saucer of another flower pot.  I took one of the toad houses from out front and set it on a dish, filling it with a bit of water, by the wall where it is sheltered and also mostly out of the searing sun.

It pleases me to no end, I feel honored, to have found these two little guys.  We leave the deck and patio lights on all night which attracts tons of insects which in turn should feed the frogs handsomely.  Except that some of the insects are bigger than the froggies …

Looking forward to seeing if they’re still around tomorrow.
