What’s Left?

Progress on the house seems to be moving right along. On Friday last week the painters returned and put the blue color we selected over the not-quite-white color we had before. The new blue, Blissful Blue, looks terrific on the house and we are both very pleased with it. It is well worth the $850 repainting fee.

Over the weekend at least one of the drywall finishers was at the house sanding and preparing the walls for interior paint. Based on our meeting last Thursday with the builder we expect interior painting to begin today. We also understand that as soon as flooring arrives at the site it will be applied, so we should start to see tile and wood and maybe carpet soon now.

The list of things remaining to be done feels like it is getting shorter. Once the walls are painted, and the flooring has been installed, the cabinets will be installed, and the trim and doors. Light fixtures need to be selected and then installed, as well as faucets for the sinks. The kitchen counter top still needs to be selected, but it is one of the last things to be put into place. Oh, and we need to get the driveway sorted out with the city and poured. Hopefully that will happen this week.

The list is short enough that we can’t imagine that it will take until the end of December to complete the house. Our suspicion is that there isn’t really that much work left, but rather it is a matter of getting time from the various subcontracting crews to do the work. The builder is completing a house across the street behind us and we’ve been watching the progress there to try and gauge where our house is time-remaining-wise.

As Sibylle puts it, we are currently living in two places. Physically we are located at the Frey Drive house, mentally and emotionally we are living at the Laussac house. Every day we have to wait now is hard. We are ready to be in our house now. We are very happy that we are a part of its construction and that our decisions are helping to shape the house the way we want, but waiting (“vaiting… vaiting…”) is getting a little bit old. So here’s to good weather and no schedule delays; we’re ready to move.
