Duet

One of the things that has always amazed me about musicians is their ability to play together with other musicians. To coordinate and synchronize their music with the music of the other players always seems sort of magical to me.

Now that I am learning to play cello, Sibylle and I are both looking forward to duets together. This afternoon we had a beautifully sweet taste of making music together. We played through an arrangement of her’s that combines Pachelbel’s Canon in D with Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. I played Jolly Old while she accompanied me on the piano. It may have been halting and slow, but it was also beautiful.

Making music with other musicians is magical. Playing a duet with your lover, companion, and wife is transcendent.
